What the job involves
Cabinets take more abuse than walls. They get grease, steam, hands and constant opening and closing, so the finish has to bond well and cure hard. That means degreasing, sanding, filling grain or damage, priming and applying a durable cabinet paint in thin coats.
We usually remove the doors and drawer fronts, label them so they go back in the right place and paint them flat. The frames stay on the wall and get masked and protected.
- Degreasing and cleaning every surface
- Sanding, filling and priming
- Durable cabinet-grade finish in thin coats
- Doors and drawer fronts removed and labeled
- Hardware replacement or re-installation
Why it matters in Arizona
Dry heat and strong sun are tough on finishes, and cabinets near windows can fade or yellow over time. Many Valley kitchens have honey oak or dark builder cabinets that look dated, and painting them lighter or a soft neutral opens up the room.
Dust is a fact of life here, so we keep the work area controlled while the finish cures and we plan the order of work to limit dust settling on wet paint.
How a visit goes
We look at the cabinets, check their condition and agree on the color and sheen. Doors and drawer fronts come off, hardware is removed and everything is cleaned and sanded. We prime, paint and let each coat dry properly before the next.
Cabinet paint needs time to cure, so we explain how gently to treat the doors for the first couple of weeks. We then reinstall the doors, adjust the hinges so they hang evenly and put on the new or existing hardware.
What affects the cost
The number of doors, drawers and boxes sets the scope, followed by the condition of the existing finish and the color change you want. Heavily worn, damaged or greasy cabinets need more prep.
Replacing hardware, repairing damaged doors or adding trim adds to the total. We provide a free estimate and an upfront price.
When it needs a different approach
If the cabinet boxes are water-damaged, swollen or falling apart, painting will not fix that. We can repair or replace the damaged pieces first, or tell you honestly if the cabinets are past saving. Full refacing and custom cabinet replacement are separate projects.
