What the job involves
A stain or paint job on a fence is only as good as the surface under it. We start by cleaning off dirt and loose finish, repair or replace damaged boards and hardware, sand rough spots and then apply stain or paint evenly across the boards.
We can also treat gates, posts and wood elements around patios and entries so everything matches.
- Cleaning and preparing the wood
- Repairing loose or damaged boards
- Staining or painting fences and gates
- Matching an existing color
- Sealing for sun and moisture protection
Why it matters in Arizona
UV exposure dries out wood and breaks down the finish quickly, and then monsoon rain soaks in and makes boards swell and warp. A stain or sealer that has failed leaves the wood gray, cracked and open to rot.
Block walls are common in the Valley, but wood fences, gates and privacy panels are still everywhere. Keeping them sealed saves replacement costs later.
How a visit goes
We check the fence for damage and plan the finish. We clean, repair and dry the wood before we apply stain or paint, because finishes do not stick well to dirty or damp wood.
We then apply the finish with a sprayer or brush, depending on the fence, and back-brush so it soaks in evenly. We cover plants and surrounding surfaces and tell you how long to leave the fence alone while it dries.
What affects the cost
Total length and height of the fence and whether both sides get finished set the price. Boards that need repair, heavy buildup of old finish and gates with detail add time.
We provide a free estimate and an upfront price.
When it needs a different approach
If boards are rotted or posts are leaning, refinishing will not help. We repair or replace sections first, or we tell you when a fence has reached the end of its life.
“Jesse did a great job installing a fence in our backyard. He made sure his work was up to our standards and was very professional. It was completed quickly and was priced very reasonably. I would definitely use Charme and Sons again!”
